James T. McKenna has been a journalist for more than 20 years, focusing on aviation operations and safety. In 1994, he was part of an Aviation Week team that won the Aviation & Space Writers Association award for excellence in journalism for coverage of the space shuttle. McKenna holds an FAA airframe mechanic's license and a private pilot's license (fixed-wing). He also has completed aircraft accident investigator courses of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and the Air Line Pilots Association.
