HOUSTON,
Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL)
today reported a January consolidated (mainline plus regional) load factor of
76.3 percent, 0.4 points above the
January 2006 consolidated load factor, and
a mainline load factor of 76.8 percent, 0.4 points above the
January 2006
mainline load factor. Both load factors were records for the month. In
addition, the carrier reported a domestic mainline load factor of 78.1
percent, 0.2 points below
January 2006, and an international mainline load
factor of 75.3 percent, 1.1 points above
January 2006.
During the month, Continental recorded a U.S. Department of Transportation
on-time arrival rate of 74.3 percent and a January mainline completion factor
of 99.6 percent.
In January 2007, Continental flew 7.0 billion consolidated revenue
passenger miles (RPMs) and 9.2 billion consolidated available seat miles
(ASMs), resulting in a traffic increase of 5.9 percent and a capacity increase
of 5.5 percent as compared to January 2006. In January 2007, Continental flew
6.3 billion mainline RPMs and 8.2 billion mainline ASMs, resulting in a
mainline traffic increase of 6.2 percent and a 5.6 percent increase in
mainline capacity as compared to January 2006. Domestic mainline traffic was
3.4 billion RPMs in January 2007, up 4.8 percent from January 2006, and
domestic mainline capacity was 4.3 billion ASMs, up 5.1 percent from January
2006.
For January 2007, consolidated passenger revenue per available seat mile
(RASM) is estimated to have increased between 2.0 percent and 3.0 percent
compared to January 2006, while mainline passenger RASM is estimated to have
increased between 3.5 and 4.5 percent compared to January 2006. For December
2006, consolidated passenger RASM increased 4.1 percent compared to December
2005, while mainline passenger RASM increased 6.2 percent from December 2005.
January 2007 sales at continental.com increased 17 percent over January
2006.
Continental's regional operations had a January load factor of 72.3
percent, 0.4 points below the January 2006 load factor. Regional RPMs were
759.7 million and regional ASMs were 1,050.4 million in January 2007,
resulting in a traffic increase of 3.6 percent and a capacity increase of 4.2
percent versus January 2006.
