Pratt & Whitney Wins US$200 Million V2500Select(R) Engine Deal from Tiger Airways

SINGAPORE, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SINGAPORE AIRSHOW -- Singapore-based Tiger Airways has selected the International Aero Engines V2500Select to power 20 Airbus A320-family jets, as part of a fleet expansion plan. The order for engines to power 20 firm aircraft is valued at more than $200 million for Pratt & Whitney if all options are exercised. The engines will be backed by a long-term V2500Select service agreement. Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company, is a major partner in International Aero Engines.

"We are delighted that Tiger Airways continues to recognize the V2500 as a key asset in their growth and expansion," said Todd Kallman, president of Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines and IAE board member. "Their decision is a testament to the V2500's reliability in a market that demands the lowest possible fuel burn and overall emissions."

Tiger Airways currently operates a fleet of 12 V2500-powered Airbus A320 family aircraft, with 58 engines on firm order, deliveries are expected through 2016.

The 22,000-33,000lb of thrust V2500-A5 is available in seven different thrust settings to power the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 family of aircraft as well as the A319 Corporate Jet.

IAE is a multinational aero engine consortium whose shareholders comprise Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce (RR.L.), the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines. More than 1,400 V2500-powered aircraft have been delivered and the worldwide fleet has accumulated over 50 million flying hours.

Pratt & Whitney has over 17,000 aircraft engines installed with hundreds of airlines around the world. Pratt & Whitney is also a leading partner in two joint venture companies that manufacture commercial aircraft engines: International Aero Engines, which makes the V2500 for the Airbus A320 family of aircraft, and the Engine Alliance, whose GP7200 engine is FAR 33 certified for the new Airbus A380.

Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines. United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the global aerospace and building industries.
