09 Jan 0320Z East Midlands A300 of DHL Reg: EI-SAF Slid off icy taxiway and became stuck in mud. Nil After landing from Brussels. Minor damage (bent left bogie).
18 Jan Columbus Ohio Embraer RJ135LR of American Eagle Jumped chocks and hit hangar during engine run. 3minor / 3 on board Probable write-off. Imagery at http://www.iasa.com.au/eagle.htm.
22 Jan 0130 Elkhart Indiana Canadair RJ (of possibly Chautauqua) Bringing back Notre Dame basketball team from Providence RI landed Elkhart Municipal instead of South Bend Regional. Nil The two airports are about 12 miles apart. Towers for both airports were closed at the time.
22 Jan Indonesia 737-2B7 of Suvarnabhumi Ex- N288AU - skidded off runway breaking fuselage. Nil Locale of training accident in Indonesia unknown. Write-off?
22 Jan Baranquilla Colombia 767-300 of UAL flt:UA855 Declared emergency after extensive problems with electrical system. Nil Flight enroute Miami-Buenos Aires. Minor damage. No further details.
23 Jan 1312Z Toronto Ca L-1011 of Air Transat Reg: C-FTNG Enroute from Orlando advised of an engine failure. Nil No further details.
24 Jan Chongqing-Chengdu (China) Xian Yunshuji Y7-100C .Flt: B3043 of Sichuan Airlines Hijacker pax ignited explosives airborne - injuring himself and one other pax. 2inj / 16 on board Subdued by security officer. Hijacker had earlier made demands of pilot, but had been refused.
24 Jan Busia Kenya Gulfstream G1 Reg: 5Y-EMJ Hit power-lines, pylon and house on t/off from short rough strip and destroyed. 3 fatal / 12 on board Rough runway 13/31 at 3281ft was insufficient length for load of Kenyan Govt Ministers.
24 Jan Bournemouth UK 737-200 of Palmair Reg: G-CEAC Shut-down eng at 5000ft on dept and returned BOH. Nil Cross-hire from European Avn Air Charters. No further details.
26 Jan Minneapolis St Paul 747-400 of NWA Eng failed enroute from Amsterdam Nil Continued to destination. No further details.
26 Jan Frankfurt Germany 777 of MAS High-speed rejected take-off after #1 eng problem. Nil Sparks seen from #1 engine on take-off (by onlookers).
26 Jan (pre-dawn) Manaus- Rio Branco Brazil 737-2M9 of VASP Reg: PP-SPJ A/c crashed into trees after sliding off the runway and collapsing the gear on ldg. Nil / 87 pax / 6 crew Heavily damaged (all gear oleos detached). Landed in darkness and dense fog. Imagery: http://www.iasa.com.au/vasp.htm.
27 Jan Seoul-Narita (Tokyo) 767-300 of All Nippon Awys flt:908 A/c failed to stop within runway length traveling about 70 meters into soft ground. Bogged jet not removed until next day. Nil Crew landed with tail-wind & failed to utilize wet runway stopping techniques for new 2,180 m runway, 1,800 m shorter than the other runway. Minor damage.
28 Jan 1815L Reagan Nat'l Airport CRJ of ComAir Flt: 104 Declared emergency for smoke in toilet. Nil / 19 pax No fault found post-landing (from Atlanta, Ga.).
28 Jan 1830L Washington (Dulles Intl) 777 of United Flt: 383 Belligerent 64yo Russian-speaking pax set fire to seat with a cigarette lighter. Nil Subdued by marshal. Arrested by FBI after a/c taxied back to terminal. F/A doused seat fire.
28 Jan 2130L Glasgow Cessna Citation B of NetJets Landed at Glasgow after earlier losing part of nose-gear in Aberdeen landing. Nil Minor damage.
30 Jan 0500L Shannon Ireland USN C-40 (737) 50 year old woman peace-protester attacked a/c with hatchet on tarmac. Nil Extensive damage to nose-wheel area hydraulics and electrics.
30 Jan Edinburgh Scotland DO-328 of Scot Awys Jettisoned fuel prior to landing with unsafe gear. Nil Indicator/micro-switch problem.
