Rotorcraft Report: Germany’s ADAC Breaks Ground on Academy

TRAINING

The German national auto club ADAC broke ground in August on a training academy for helicopter emergency medical service crews.

Located in St. Augustin, the training center’s objective is to "set new standards in education and training in helicopter aviation," according to the club, which says it is the first integrated training center for helicopter pilots, doctors and medical aides in emergency air rescue service. The center has full flight simulators for the Eurocopter EC135 and EC145 and a medical simulator for training doctors and paramedics. Built by cueSim Ltd, a subsidiary of the U.K. firm QinetiQ, the EC135 simulator is equipped with analog instruments and is reconfigurable between the EC135P2 (powered by the Pratt and Whitney Canada PW206B2) and EC135T2 (powered by Turbomeca’s Arrius 2B2). CueSim said it will be reconfigurable to the upgraded T2i and P2i variants. The EC145 simulator incorporates a full electronic flight instrument system (EFIS).
