Family of Pilot and Survivor Were Acquaintances

The parents of the lone survivor of Sunday’s fatal crash of a Maryland State Police helicopter spoke to the press on September 30 outside of the hospital where their daughter, 18-year old Jordan Wells, is recuperating. Scott Wells, Jordan’s father, advised that his daughter is still in critical condition, but improving. Wells also told reporters that his family is acquainted with the family of the pilot, Stephen Bunker, stating their children happened to belong to the same educational organization. Wells went on to praise the efforts of Bunker, 59, Trooper 1st Class Mickey Lippy, 34, and EMT Tonya Mallard, 38, saying, “Our hearts, our tears, our prayers, our gratefulness go out to them. They’re heroes in our hearts.” Ashley Young, a 17-year old friend of Jordan Wells, also died in the early morning crash that occurred near Andrews Air Force Base just outside of Washington, DC. Both of the teenagers were being transported to an area trauma center after the car they occupied was involved in an accident. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash early morning crash. For related news
