Deputy FAA Administrator Bobby Sturgell was named the FAA’s acting chief operating officer, replacing Russell Chew who is scheduled to leave office at the end of the month. The FAA and its Air Traffic Organization said Sturgell will be acting ATO COO while a national search for Chew’s permanent replacement takes place. Sturgell will also continue to serve as deputy administrator, a post he has held since March 2003. Sturgell previously worked at the National Transportation Safety Board and was a line pilot for United Airlines. Chew, who has been COO since 2003, resigned earlier this month to take an executive vice president position at Hawaiian Airlines. For related news
