Chelton Flight Systems has been certified by the FAA to perform its own supplemental type certifications (STC) under the agency’s oversight. The Boise, Idaho-based manufacturer of avionics equipment said it was certified under the Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) program, which was established in 2006 with the aim of making the STC process safer, more effective and more efficient. ODA establishes a systems-based approach for FAA safety oversight of manufacturers. These manufacturers must have considerable experience and a detailed, documented competence in part-by-part compliance with regulatory standards.
