Bristow Group received FAA approval for its Flight Operations Quality Assurance Program (FOQA), which it says makes it only the second U.S. helicopter, in the country, after Era Helicopters, to receive that distinction. Also, the company said it is the first to be approved for light, single-engine aircraft. The company said the core of the program is ALERTS, a system designed by Appareo Systems, Fargo, N.D., for Bristow’s Air Logistics unit to ensure improved training and compliance with standard operating procedures. ALERTS, which stands for Aircraft Logging and Event Recording for Training and Safety, combines flight data recording, monitoring and three-dimensional flight recreation. The system also tracks each flight in detail, and then analyzes it to be sure that all aspects of the flight were within acceptable limits.
