EMS Defense & Space was awarded a $3.7 million contract from Lockheed Martin to develop an electronically steered, switched-beam antenna for the F-22 Multi-function Advanced Data Link (MADL) system upgrade. EMS currently provides the F-22 intra-flight data link antenna. The company said its antenna-based MADL system makes its possible for the existing F-22 fleet to maintain net-centric communications among differing types of aircraft. The antenna technology may be applicable to other aircraft, including the Air Force’s F-15, F-16 and B-2, and the Navy’s F-18, E-2 and E-3, according to the company.
