Inertial Measurement Unit
NovAtel, based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, released an addition to its GNSS/INS SPAN product family, the IMU-LCI. The IMU-LCI inertial measurement unit (IMU) contains a Northrop Grumman sensor that provides the low noise and stability required for applications requiring precise positioning and attitude. The custom NovAtel mechanical enclosure and software interface of the IMU integrates with a NovAtel SPAN-enabled GNSS/INS receiver. IMU measurements are sent from the IMU-LCI to the GNSS/INS receiver, where a blended GNSS/INS position, velocity and attitude solution is generated at up to 200 Hz. The unit is a tactical grade IMU with fiber-optic gyros and micro-mechanical accelerometers, making it ideal for airborne and ground survey applications, according to the company. Voice, Data System
International Communications Group (ICG), of Newport News, Va., and Cobham Antenna Systems, of Lewisville, Texas, received FAA supplemental type certification (STC) for the Sora Iridium and Swift Broadband (SBB) voice and data services system. Gulfstream, Cobham and ICG cooperated on the STC. The first Sora system was installed on a Gulfstream G200 business jet. CMS Software
Atego, of San Diego, deployed its Aonix PERC Ultra Virtual Machine in Rockwell Collins’ Venue Cabin Management System (CMS). The certification was completed on a Cessna Citation CJ4. Venue is standard equipment on the Citation CJ4. Cabin Shades
InspecTech Aero Service, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., will provide its I-Shade Cabin Light Management System for the Nextant Aerospace’s 400NEXT, a remanufactured Beechjet 400A. The I-Shade system manages light, glare and heat by electronically adjusting the amount of light energy that enters the cabin through a solid-state filter imbedded in each window inner pane. Beta Transformer Technology Corp., a subsidiary of Data Device Corp., of Bohemia, N.Y., introduced the BXC-A-1 single stub box coupler. This Mil-Std-1553-compatible system is ideal for system development, laboratory, test and flight line applications, the company said. AP Labs, of San Diego, now part of Kontron, introduced a Computer Brick Alternative (COBALT) embedded computer that can minimize size, weight and power while reducing costs. The ruggedized COBALT measures 6.5-inches by 9.725-inches by 2.95-inches, and weighs less than 5.5 pounds. Total power usage is between 5W and 25W, depending on processor. The unit can be configured for either 28VDC or 115VAC input power to provide compatibility with airborne, ground vehicle or shipboard requirements. Wind River, of Alameda, Calif., and Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing, of Leesburg, Va., announced the availability of Wind River’s VxWorks DO-178B Platform, designed to meet the safety requirements of the aerospace and defense industries. The platform includes DO-178B Level A certification evidence for a reference board support package (BSP) for the SVME/DMV-183 single board computer and additional processor support for Intel Core 2 Duo IA-32 and Power Architecture e600 cores. New features include support for Intel IA-32 architecture and Power Architecture e600 cores and BSP with DO-178B level A/B/C/D certification evidence for the SVME/DMV-183 single board computer. Display Upgrade
Honeywell upgraded its Sentinel Multi-Function Display and Navigation System to include a new display for improved flexibility and new software features. North American Sentinel customers can get geo-referenced approach plates and airport diagrams from Seattle Avionics Software. Other regions will have access to similar aviation charts through a future upgrade. The display is a 5.7-inch screen package that can be mounted either in portrait or landscape modes. Lufthansa Technik introduced “aerosight,” a new cabin surveillance camera system, which can simultaneously handle up to 16 cameras in the pressurized area of an aircraft.
