FAA issued a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the installation of Lufthansa System’s BoardConnect in-flight entertainment (IFE) system on an Airbus aircraft of an undisclosed customer.
The system, which consists of a server with a 3G Modem and three access points in the cabin, allows passengers to access the Internet using their own WiFi-enabled device. The system was first presented in March together with launch customer Condor.
Lufthansa said BoardConnect, which can be fitted during routine overnight layovers or maintenance checks, can be adapted for long-haul jets and also for smaller aircraft such as the Airbus A320 and the Boeing 737.
