Embraer has selected the Rohde & Schwartz (R&S) M3AR software defined VHF/UHF airborne transceiver for its KC-390 military transport aircraft.
The Brazilian manufacturer did not disclose the monetary value of their new contract with R&S.
The M3AR transceivers are used in various other military aircraft such as the A400M, Eurofighter and F16.
“Each of the KC-390 aircraft will be equipped with two state-of-the-art R&S M3AR radios including frequency hopping and encryption capabilities,” said R&S in a press release.
Embraer expects to begin serial production of the KC-390 in 2016, with a total of 28 aircraft planned for use by Brazil’s national defense and an additional 28 other aircraft planned for use in other countries.
R&S will deliver the first M3AR airborne transceivers for KC-390 prototype development in 2013.
