Rockwell Collins on Monday announced the formation of a new joint venture based in China that will produce avionics for the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China’s (COMAC) C919 narrow-body passenger jet.

The new joint venture, AVIC Leihua Rockwell Collins Avionics Company, is a collaboration between Rockwell Collins and the China Leihua Electronic Technology Research Institute (LETRI), a subsidiary of the Aviation Industry Corp. of China (AVIC). The two companies will initially focus on manufacturing integrated surveillance system products for China’s C919 program.

“The creation of AVIC Leihua Rockwell Collins Avionics Company is a major milestone in supporting the COMAC C919 program, as well as another step forward in supporting the growing aviation industry in China," said Kent Statler, executive vice president of commercial systems at Rockwell Collins.

The joint venture will be based in the Wuxi Wuxi, Jiangsu Province of China.
