Global Eagle has a new agreement with satellite communications provider Thaicom to begin developing in-flight connectivity service for airlines within the Asia Pacific region.
Row 44, a Global Eagle subsidiary, will provide the hardware and software for its satellite-based in-flight connectivity platform as part of the partnership. Thaicom will also work with Global Eagle to build the infrastructure for a satellite-based in-flight Wi-Fi service within the Asia Pacific region.
The partnership will mark Thaicom’s first entry into the in-flight connectivity market, in a region where the International Air Transportation Association estimates to experience the strongest growth in air passenger demand over the next decade.
“We view the Asia Pacific region as a major growth market," said John La Valle, CEO of Global Eagle.
