Norwegian carrier Wideroe is ready to transition from paper-based flight operations to an electronic flight environment, signing a five-year electronic flight bag (EFB) service agreement with Jeppesen, Boeing’s Digital Aviation subsidiary, said the company Wednesday, Dec. 4.
The airline will integrate Jeppesen’s iPad-based FliteDeck Pro EFB into its operations under the new agreement. The transition will provide significant weight savings as well as improve situational awareness.
Jeppesen’s EFB runs on Aviobook software, allowing transition of flight data between all mobile and desktop airline systems. Wideroe will integrate the EFBs into its fleet of 42 Bombardier Dash-8 turbo-prop aircraft.
“We have trusted Jeppesen data for many years in paper form and we now look forward to transitioning to fully digital solutions for our operations at Wideroe,” said Helge Anonsen, deputy director flight operations and EFB administrator. “Providing service to international and unique domestic destinations creates operational challenges that Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro tools will simplify, offering data-driven information in real time in the flight deck."
