Brazil’s air traffic communication systems for the Integrated Center for Air Defense and Air Traffic Control 3 airspace region is being upgraded to a full Internet protocol (IP)-based system, Northrop Grumman said Friday, Dec. 6.
The Brazilian Airspace Control System Implementation Commission (CISCEA) selected Northrop’s Park Air Systems subsidiary to upgrade the legacy system with its Park Air T6 UHF/VHF range of ground-to-air communication equipment as a turnkey system. Brazilian subcontractor ATC Systems will provide infrastructure work, installation, training and technical support.
Under the contract, more than 1,500 Park Air radios will be installed across 30 air traffic control sites within the CINDACTA3 region. The project is a follow on from previous contracts where Park Air upgraded the systems for the CINDACTA1 and CINDACTA2 regions.
"To deliver IP-based communications coverage for a system this size and in this region is an example of how we are able to provide complex air traffic management communication systems for demanding environments," said Charles Houseago, managing director, Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems.
