[Avionics Today May 13, 2014] Garmin has received certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for its touchscreen multi-function display, the GTN 725, on ATR 42 and ATR 72 aircraft.

The approval will expand the operational ability of the ATR aircraft, adding Precision-Area Navigation (P-RNAV) for operators in Europe. P-RNAV procedures allow aircraft to fly shorter and more direct routes by automatically determining the aircraft’s desired flight path through a series of way points held in a database.

GTN 725 also allows pilots to graphically edit flight plans on its moving map display, enabling flight plan modifications at any time.

“The GTN 725 is a solution for operators in the ATR 42 and ATR 72 that enables them to fly P-RNAV procedures, which expands the operational capability of the aircraft throughout European airspace," said Carl Wolf, vice president of aviation sales and marketing.
