[Avionics Today 01-14-2015] Advantech Wireless has signed a contract with a Latin American Civil Aviation government entity to provide a mesh VSAT network for Air Traffic Control (ATC) and airport communications in remote parts of the country. Advantech Wireless will provide two geographically redundant hubs with 4.5m antennas and transmission equipment for interfacing with the company’s Multi-Frequency-Time Division Multiple Access (MF-TDMA) discovery hubs and S5220 mesh satellite routers.

The customer plans to use the satellite network to augment its terrestrial microwave point-to-point network solution, which Advantech Wireless previously developed and deployed. Advantech Wireless is also providing a full set of integration logistics and support services along with satellite bandwidth provisioning. Once complete, the network will increase the country’s civil aviation security and safety levels, complying with national and international regulations.
