[Avionics Today 01-15-2015] Engility Holdings has been awarded a $50.7 million contract to provide technical, management and analysis support to the John A. Volpe Transportation Center in association with programs related to the FAA’s NextGen airspace modernization efforts. Specifically, Engility will support the on-going development, evaluation and management of programs within the Air Traffic Systems Directorate (ATSD) of the FAA’s Air Traffic Operations (ATO) Program Management Office.

The work will be performed over an 18-month period, during which Engility will provide support to programs such as En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM), and Terminal Automation Modernization Replacement (TAMR). These programs are key elements of the FAA’s NextGen efforts, and ultimately aim to shift Air Traffic Control (ATC) from ground-based radars to satellite-based and digital technologies as well as develop new procedures to make air travel more efficient, predictable and environmentally friendly.

This contract follows a $66 million award issued to Engility in November 2014 to support the John A. Volpe Transportation Center’s FAA Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B) program.
