[Avionics Today 11-19-2015] Rockwell Collins successfully demonstrated the first Required Navigation Performance Area Navigation (RNP RNAV)-capable Flight Management System (FMS) aligned to the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) Standard.
The demonstration, held Nov. 18 at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala., exercised the flight-proven Rockwell Collins RNP RNAV software using only FACE Edition 2.1 aligned interfaces to a third-party supplied FACE Transport Services Segment and the LynxOS-178 FACE Operating System Segment. Using the FACE-aligned interfaces assures portability across different hosting hardware, according to the company.
This is the first software application submitted for FACE verification testing, says Troy Brunk, vice president and general manager of airborne solutions for Rockwell Collins. The RNP RNAV software application the company has developed leverages the commercial technologies that are currently operational on commercial and tactical aircraft around the world. This is the second successful demonstration of RNP RNAV software to U.S. military officials.
