[Avionics Today 12-15-2015] Gulfstream Aerospace has received approval from the FAA to install the Gogo Business Aviation UCS 5000 smart cabin system on Gulfstream GV and GIV aircraft. With the upgrade, passengers will have access to Gogo Vision, an In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) service that delivers regularly updated, on-demand movies and television shows to any Personal Electronic Device (PED) in the cabin.

UCS 5000 interfaces with Iridium and SwiftBroadband systems. The new equipment’s smart router provides wireless service to multiple users with a single login, manages multiple data networks, and supports Gogo’s smartphone messaging service, in conjunction with Gogo’s ATG 4000 or ATG 5000 in-flight Internet system.

Gulfstream is pursuing similar supplemental type certificates from the FAA to begin offering UCS 5000 to G550 and G450 aircraft in 2016.
