[Avionics Today 03-01-2016] The Jamaican Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) has awarded Thales a contract to implement an advanced Air Traffic Management (ATM) system that aims to modernize and enhance the delivery of Air Traffic Services (ATS) over Jamaica.
The company will modernize a total of six sites with air traffic management systems, including Kingston Air Traffic Control Centre, Norman Manley and Sangster International Airports as well as three radar sites. At the Mount Denham site, Thales will deploy an L-Band primary radar collocated with Mode-S Monopulse Secondary Surveil¬lance Radar (MSSR). The Kingston and Montego Bay sites will each feature one Mode-S MSSR radar. All radar sites will link into Kingston ATC, which will be equipped with the Thales TopSky-ATC air traffic management system. Thales will also ensure support and logistics for JCAA.
The technology looks to ensure total coverage of the island and its airspace.
