[Avionics Today 04-06-2016] To those of us following the FAA’s Metroplex redesign efforts in the U.S., it won’t come as a surprise that Airports Council International (ACI) ranked the Atlanta-Hartsfield Jackson International airport as the world’s busiest airport in 2015. The ACI released its yearly world air traffic rankings earlier this week, revealing that Delta’s hub has benefitted enormously from its strategic location, posting 5.5 percent year-over-year growth and seeing a record-breaking total of over 100 million passengers pass through its terminals last year.
Other Metroplex redesign hotspots make the list, including Dallas-Fortworth and Chicago O’Hare, but only Beijing Capital International airport seems to be threatening Atlanta’s top spot. Check out the chart below generated by ACI and Statista to see if an airport near you qualifiies as one of the busiest in the world.
