[Avionics Today 06-09-2016] The FAA has granted FreeFlight Systems a section 333 exemption to test avionics specifically related to Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) integration into the National Airspace System (NAS). The exemption allows FreeFlight to test the company’s certified avionics, which are designed to support safe commercial UAS operations, including both Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) and radar altimetry applications.

Using the company’s 300-acre flight test facility, the company will test sense-and-avoid and other applications that intend to promote safe UAS operation and manned/unmanned airspace integration.
