[Avionics Today 09-12-2016] The FAA has awarded a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) to Butler National to install an ADS-B In avionics solution into Learjet Model 24, 25, 28, 29, 31, 31A, 35, 35A, C-21A, 36, 36A and Learjet Model 60/60XR series airplanes.
The FAA STC approval provides an independent ADS-B In system with the installation of the Garmin GDL 88 and the Flight Stream 210 Bluetooth Transmitter. The GDL 88 receives ADS-B In communications from the Universal Access Transceiver (UAT) ground stations and the Flight Stream 210 transmits the information to on-board Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) with compatible applications.
Butler National previously an obtained STC approval for ADS-B Out compliant solutions in the Learjet Model 24, 25, 35, 35A, 36, 36A and Learjet Model 60 series airplanes, and is now turning its attention to ADS-B In solutions.
“While we have our ADS-B Out STC solutions for various Learjets, the customer interest in ADS-B In has prompted us to obtain a new Part 25 STC approval as a stand-alone solution product for ADS-B In, allowing display of the flight information on portable electronic devices,” Butler Avionics Vice President and Secretary Chris Reedy told Avionics Magazine.
ADS-B In provides pilot cockpit advisory services that consist of the FAA-supplied Flight Information Service-Broadcast (FIS-B) and Traffic Information Service-Broadcast (TIS-B). FIS-B provides a broad range of textual/graphical weather products and other flight information to the general aviation community. TIS-B provides advisory traffic information of transponder equipped aircraft in the vicinity of ADS-B Out equipped airplane.
