Honeywell’s future air navigation system (FANS) has received a supplemental type certificate (STC) for the Bombardier Challenger 601-3A/3R, Honeywell says. This system meets FAA’s NextGen FANS1/A+ mandate.
The controller pilot data link communications/FANS (CPDLC/FANS) 1/A+ upgrade is available for operators through Duncan Aviation, which received the STC. The installation includes the upgraded NZ-2000 Honeywell flight management system (FMS version 6.1), which Honeywell says integrates with current Challenger 601-3A/3R flight decks and is forward-fit compatible with future mandates. The upgrade allows operators to use more than 3,700 wide area augmentation systems (WAAS) with localizer performance with vertical guidance (LPV) approach procedures at more than 1,820 airports.
“Essentially, CPDLC/FANS enhances communication between the pilots and air traffic controller,” says Justin Vena, avionics installation sales rep for Duncan Aviation. “This integrated installation is unique in the industry.”
