FAA Tests Automated Approval for Drone Flights

U.S. drone operations have been constrained by a number of factors, including a lengthy approval process for flights in controlled airspace. Now at 50 U.S. airports, the FAA is preparing tests of a process, Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability, for automating and speeding that approval process. The process could serve as the first step in Unmanned Traffic Management and greater integration of drones in U.S. civil airspace.
