Cobham Satcom and Avionica are teaming to provide “the industry’s smallest and lightest” Inmarsat solution for simultaneous cockpit and cabin communication for business jets, Cobham said. The new joint solution combines Cobham’s Aviator 300D satcom system with Avionica’s avWIFI intelligent router, the company said.
The company said the solution is a method of Future Air Navigation Systems/Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (FANS/CDPLC) and non-safety-related voice and data connectivity over one channel of SwiftBroadband, using Inmarsast’s SwiftBroadband-Safety technology platform.
“It’s exciting to leverage our SB-S success with the airlines and bring this technology to the business jet market,” said Scott Beutel, regional director for Cobham Satcom. “With its fuselage-mounted intermediate gain antenna, the Aviator 300D will provide a connectivity option to operators at a price point well below historical high gain antenna solutions and offer more connectivity flexibility than other systems.”
The two companies recently completed integration testing at Cobham’s facility in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Cobham Satcom said it is currently evaluating supplemental type certificate opportunities for some aircraft types.
