Bombardier’s Singapore service center used Honeywell Aerospace’s JetWave hardware to install its first Ka-band system on an in-service Global 6000 aircraft.
“Our customers need to stay connected no matter where they are in the world, and Bombardier continues to lead the industry in offering the most advanced in-flight media experience available today on both its new and in-service aircraft,” said Jean-Christophe Gallagher, VP and general manager of customer experience for Bombardier Business Aircraft.
Ka-band technology features the industry’s fastest in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing passengers to browse the internet, stream live TV and movies or stage a video conference virtually anywhere in the skies. The system leverages Honeywell’s JetWave hardware to deliver high-speed access, consistent performance and seamless coverage worldwide.
In 2015, Bombardier became the first OEM to announce plans to offer Ka-band technology as an option on its new and in-service business aircraft, and the first to begin deliveries in 2016. The Singapore service center performed the first-ever installation of a Ka-band system on a Global 5000 aircraft in a 2016 retrofit. Bombardier received certification to offer the system on its new and in-service Challenger aircraft in May 2017.
