What to Do About Cockpit Display Obsolescence?
The obsolescence of cathode ray tube (CRT) aircraft cockpit displays is becoming a reality for all segments of aviation. Thousands of CRT displays are still flying in business jets, commercial airliners and military aircraft. However, support for the parts and components needed to repair and maintain them will soon end. Upgrading to liquid crystal displays (LCDs) provides advantages for flight-operational performance and maintenance support. As airlines look for cost-effective upgrades for mid-life legacy fleets, many maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) shops are providing LCD-upgrade paths.
